Advertising will be needed, but it is different online. Social media sites are a good way to let people know about your magazine. Finding a social site that caters to your subject matter is the key. If your magazine is pointing towards online business there are a number of sites that will fit the bill. However if your writing about wildlife you will find fewer sites that specialize in that subject. The good news is that they will be more targeted to your subject.

You could also advertise with ads using numerous methods if you have a budget for it. You will need a landing page, which is a site where people go to sign up. It could be combined with the information about your venture as well as a sign up page. You can advertise it through Google or any number of other means. To find the links to those type of sites a word search will give you plenty to choose from, just search on the keyword advertising.

If you do not have a budget to work with then you will have to really work to promote your work. Using social sites such as twitter are good, but you need people to read what you post and the down side of social media is you have to build a following. You could also blog to help build your list. Blogs seem to get picked up easier if you have original content thus spreading the information faster than if you just set up a landing page.

Promoting your work is an ongoing thing, as you want it to continually grow. The internet offers up an unlimited amount of possible customers for your work. Encompassing the globe, it is not limited by time or location. You can write it in New York and it can be read in China. You may load your work at 3 p. M. Eastern Standard Time, and it may be read across the world in a minute or in hours. It also does not matter when you start your site, if your articles are timeless it will stay online forever and could be read years from now.

Production costs are minimal for an online product. You need to keep your website up and running on a domain. Typically that will be your main cost once you have established your list. If you need to build a list then you may need to add in advertising costs. Nonetheless, when those two are added up, it is peanuts in comparison to what it would cost for the same item offline. Printing costs alone would be phenomenal.

Hiring writers is another area where you can save money. You can hire a writer by letting them have a byline with a link to their website. That gives the writer the exposure they need to promote their products or services to a new audience. Offline you might have to pay a high price for a writer, whereas doing this online can save you.

While most small business marketers think press releases are the best way to pass along information to the media, they are unaware of more sophisticated ways to make their information more usable. Did you know that a newspaper feature could lead to a placement on “Oprah” or “Rachel Ray,” the syndicated TV shows that all marketers covet; or that the producer looking for show ideas scans her local newspaper as well as the big guns like The New York Times or Wall Street Journal?

One idea that small businesses can afford is to hire a mat feature service to convert information into a newsworthy brief feature on a topic that the public is interested in reading about. Large corporations have been using this type of service for years and pay PR firms big bucks to include these columns in their corporate PR programs. Intended to reach consumers in the wealthy suburbs, these features are distributed to the thousands of newspapers nationwide including smaller publications, and receive regular pickup. Best of all, these columns are often printed exactly as written.

Further, the older services mostly handled corporate clients who already had brand recognition and could afford to pay for this type of service. Now there is a firm that caters to the small business company, using faster, less costly means of distribution to make this service accessible to those on limited budgets who want to place themselves on the map. By incorporating mentions of a product or service into a captioned graphic and a brief feature that newspapers find more informational than promotional, this firm gives clients two opportunities to put their product or service center stage — and the features are preformatted so clients approve what they say.

Newspaper features can be linked to your own web site, can be included in brochures, are picked up by web site article directories and can achieve endless publicity mileage when used correctly. For a small investment, you get large public relations exposure…and potential TV placement.

Newspapers have been a remarkable part of human society way back some five centuries ago. Newspapers especially in Renaissance Europe are hand written and then privately circulated among merchants since the most common topics discussed are all about wars and then economic conditions that affect society. The first ever printed newspapers appeared in Germany in 1400 in the form of pamphlets or broadsides which are often times exaggerated in content. Its usual topic concerns German’s atrocities like the famous folklore about Count Dracula.

In the English-speaking world, the earliest predecessors of newspaper are called corantos which are small news pamphlets that contained noteworthy events. And the very first consecutively published newspaper was titled The Weekly News which was made available in the year 1622. Numerous newspapers of different titles also followed but they copied the format of The Weekly News. The first ever published true newspaper in English was the London Gazette which was distributed in the year 1666. This newspaper was officially approved among the vast number of periodical titles and lasted for about a century.

The first newspaper printing press was used by Ben Franklin which was called the Ramage Press. This printing press was constructed entirely out of wood however there are also some parts that make use of iron. This printing press is now displayed at the National Museum in Washington. Another printing press was developed by Earl Stanhope but this time he created his printing press frame using entirely iron. For the power he combined toggle joint and lever.

The quest for perfecting the printing press technology has continued to great parts of the world until the year 1850 to 1860 which showed great advancements in the presses. It was during these years that fast printing was developed to answer the ever increasing demands for newspaper. But there are some problems with the created presses and it has something to do with the plates used for the presses. However, this problem was solved in the year 1861 by the application of a steam bed that is used to dry a novel style of paper Mache mold. This novel style of paper Mache mold is use to make a stereotype replica of the type pages which are in the form of plates which are fitted around the cylinders. The process usually takes an hour or so to come up with a single plate.

While passing through the presses, on the contrary the present day presses are capable of creating plates in minutes and has the ability to print on both sides of the paper. The octuple machine is one of the most awaited printing press at present since it has the ability to fold and counts 96,000 complete 8-page paper per hour or 48,000 complete 16-page papers at sizes like that of the ordinary daily newspaper. Right now only one of these machines is placed in operation and can be seen in the printing room of the New York World.

Newspaper inserts are a great way to advertise for retailers and services businesses. While it costs more than run-of-press newspaper advertising, it costs much less than direct mail. Regular newspaper advertising tend to get lost in the mix of black and white ads and dull color newsprint ads. However, inserts are full color glossy ads that fall out of the paper and into your potential customer’s hands. This gives your advertising more impact and a better response rate. Inserts can also be targeted by geographics and demographics, giving less advertising waste.

Direct mail can also target in the same way, but direct mail can cost 4-5 times as much money as newspaper inserts. Specialty printers can print full color glossy inserts and ship them to your newspaper for delivery. The costs for printing and shipping in is only 2-3 cents each (other areas slightly higher). Your local newspaper would then charge 4 -6 cents each to deliver. The total cost would be around 6-9 cents each for printing and distributing the sales flyers. Direct mail is usually 25-50 cents each to print and mail, which can be quite costly. The best time to insert for local businesses is mid-week, when the inserts are fewer. Also, the newspaper delivers to non-subscribers during the week. That way you can deliver to every home in your desired zip codes. You can choose zip codes closest to your business or zip codes with your targeted consumers. To make your inserts work best, give your customers a reason to come in that week. Create urgency by using coupons, sale prices, specials, etc. with and ending date of the sale.
